Metal Gear Solid 4 Makes Its PS3 Digital Premiere, Launches On PSN In Two Weeks

Metal Gear Solid 4 Is Coming To PSN For The First Time On December 16

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is far from a new game. Kojima Productions' most recent numbered entry in the storied Metal Gear franchise enjoyed a worldwide release all the way back in 2008. Presumably to drum up more excitement for the imminent release of Metal Gear Solid V, though, publisher Konami is breathing some new life into the game with its first digital release. Starting December 16, Metal Gear Solid 4 will be available as a PSN digital download for PlayStation 3, with a $19.99 price tag.

PS3 owners hoping to score this classic console title will need to make sure that they have enough space on their hard drive. The game commands an impressive 30 GB of space – not that out of the ordinary in modern terms, but still a hefty file size for such an early PS3 title.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was the first game in the series to try out non-linear level design, providing players with several different routes and ways to complete each mission. It's a design choice that is only going to be expanded in Metal Gear Solid V, which has been advertising its open level design and the fact that no two playthroughs will be exactly the same.

Not Even LittleBigPlanet 3 Is Immune To The Curse Of Games Being Broken On Release

Metal Gear Solid 4 met with wide critical praise upon its release, taking home perfect review scores from such sites as Game Informer, Famitsu, IGN and GameSpot. Also noteworthy about the game is its lengthy collection of cinematic cutscenes, with the epilogue alone taking up more than an hour.

Metal Gear Solid 4 will hit PSN on December 16. You'll be able to pick up the next installment in the franchise sometime next year.
