The Walking Dead Spinoff Cobalt Announced, New Cast Includes Harry Potter Alumni

Magic vs Zombies, Tom Riddle Actor Cast in Walking Dead Spinoff

If you're still reeling over THAT CHARACTER's demise in Sunday's mid-season finale of The Walking Dead,  then the network has a surprise to warm your heart. Deadline reports that some of the cast for Cobalt, the spin-off for the mega hit series, has finally been announced.

The new show will feature Frank Dillane, who Potter-heads will recognize as the young Tom Riddle, the boy would grow up to be Voldemort. He plays Nick Tompkins, the teenage son of a new character called Nancy Tompkins, and will apparently be an epic screw-up. Of course, we know that when it comes to the apocalypse, the biggest failures often turn into shining stars. Something about the end of the world really gets people motivated.

Also cast was Alycia Debnam Carey from Into the Storm, who will play Nick's sister, Ashley, who is the polar opposite. I'm sure we'll see little Miss Perfect knocked down a few pegs when the zombies start swarming.

The new show will take place in a brand new location somewhere outside of Georgia. Hopefully it's far enough away so that we can see how different climates handle the threat of the walking dead. Right now the few details point to a similar set up of survivors wondering around, searching for safety and trying to survive. However, the characters listed include two ex-school district employees, a kid with a drug problem, and his preppy sister, who probably lack some of the survival skills that Team Rick boasts.

Adam Davidson of Community and Hell on Wheels will be directing the pilot of the new series. No word on when it will be premiering as of yet but rumors point to it being snuck into AMC's fall lineup for the 2015 season.
