Batman Arkham Knight Comic Announced: DC Reveals New Series That Will Serve As Prequel For The Upcoming Game

Batman: Arkham Knight Game Will Have Comic Prequel

The Batman: Arkham Knight game isn't hitting shelves until the summer, but DC has something to help fans get through the cold dark days of winter. The company is releasing a Batman: Arkham Knight comic series to tell the story of the events between the previous and upcoming video games.

DC Comics to Release Movie Variants for Month of March

The first issue will be on sale March 11, 2015. The artists are Viktor Bogdanovic and Art Thibert, while it will be written by Peter J. Tomasi. There will also be two variant covers for the comic, one by Gary Frank, and another featuring art from the game.

Arkham Knight is the fourth title in the Batman Arkham series of video games, and the third developed by Rocksteady Studios. It follows Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and most recently Arkham Origins, which was instead handled by Warner Bros Montreal. DC feels there is more story to be told between Arkham City and Arkham Knight, so the comic will bridge that gap according to its announcement. (Spoilers for the plot of the previous Arkham games follow.)

Gross Out Garbage Pail Kids Coming Back to the World of Comics

Given its place in the chronology, the comic will pick up after the events of Arkham City. The Joker, Batman's greatest enemy, is dead. Bruce Wayne is a ball of pain due to the injuries he sustained during the events of the last game. The world believes in part that they no longer need Batman--after all, the greatest threats have been vanquished.

But in the traditional way of superheroes, a new threat is always on the horizon. Batman will not be able to rest for long, and the comic will detail the events that introduce the Arkham Knight: a name that refers not to the Caped Crusader, but to a similarly-dressed villain.

Batman: Arkham Knight (the game) will go on sale June 2, 2015.
