American Horror Story Mid-Season Finale Recap: Orphans Poses New Questions, Answers One [SPOILERS]

Mid-Season Finale Of American Horror Story Is Short on Blood But There Are Plenty Of Tears

It is so hard to predict what's going to happen on American Horror Story and the mid-season finale was no exception to the twisting show. The episode took a break from the blood and gave us a roller coaster of emotion instead. Spoilers below.

The Axman is Returning to American Horror Story

The episode opens with the death of Salty, Pepper's spiritual husband and fellow pinhead. During the course of preparing the body, Stanley convinces Elsa to let him take care of the burial arrangements so she can rest.

He cuts off Salty's head and sends it to the museum. Stanley is horrible.

Later, Desiree is reading to Pepper to try and make her feel better. Del comes and tries to reconcile with her but she pushes him away. She's got a new man and no time for past mistakes. Instead she goes to see Elsa who reveals her past as well as the origins of Pepper, who she found in an orphanage, and Ma Petite, who she traded three cases of Dr. Pepper for.

Desiree convinces Elsa to send Pepper back to her sister so she's taken care of when Elsa leaves.

Meanwhile, Stanley pays a visit to Jimmy in prison. He tells him that he has a lawyer but he'll need money. When Jimmy says he doesn't have anything, Stanley offers him deal.

After a stern talking to by Desiree and a meeting with the twins, Maggie decides to come clean about what she and Stanley are up to. She enlists Desiree's help and takes her to the museum to see the body of Ma Petite, the head of Salty and, surprise, Jimmy's hands.

Fast forward to 1962 and Pepper's sister is talking to Sister Mary Eunice. Turns out that she was the one that put Pepper in the Asylum and there was actually a baby. Pepper wasn't the one that killed him though, just like she said way back in season 2.

The baby was born deformed and the father was the one that did the deed. Her sister and brother and law framed her and then commit her to Sister Mary Eunice's care.

As she's helping the Sister put away magazines, she sees one with Elsa's face on it proclaiming her to be the queen of Friday night TV dated 1958.

So many new questions. AHS returns in January.
