The game has been in development for several years, and entered closed beta last March before moving to an open version in July. Sadly, today the developers announced that the project must be canceled before full release.

"Today Jagex and Hasbro can confirm that Transformers Universe will close. This decision comes at an important time for both companies as they both realign their plans and focuses for 2015. We're hugely disappointed, but the game will be closing over the coming weeks before its full closure at 10 a.m. GMT on January 31, 2015.

"As a team, we can't thank players enough for the support that they have shown us over the last few years of development, and even more so during our beta period."

The team goes on to welcome any comments and concerns in the forums, but reminds players that this is a very difficult time for the development team. The wind down period will begin today, with refunds offered to anyone who bought the Founders Pack and relic or starter bundles. It's always sad to see studios shut down, but at least they're going about it properly. The ability to create new accounts has been removed, and players who are already in the game will be able to play until the shut down date.
