There are of course a handful of playable Pokemon in the Super Smash Bros series, but how about a whole roster?

Fan mod Pokebrawl brings a wider selection of the popular characters to Nintendo's fighting series as playable fighters. Developed by SleepyJirachi and currently in beta, you can play as Venusaur, Jirachi, Blaziken, Electivire, Typhlosion, and several more. The video below shows off some gameplay footage.

It's a little rough around the edges on the character screen, but the battles look better than you might expect. Things flow pretty smoothly, and the fighters are animated well. They seem to have some unique moves, and it's encouraging to remember it's also only in beta. Color me impressed! As the name implies, this is a mod for Super Smash Bros Brawl, not the new Wii version or an older iteration.

Unfortunately, there's no public release yet--the creator stated in the comments that he would like to polish the game more before releasing a downloadable version. Keep any eye out for any updates, though SleepyJirachi explains that his hands are pretty full at the moment. The video of the current build will have to do for now, and it certainly seems promising! Thanks for the find, Kotaku.
