12 Monkeys Pilot Spoilers: Syfy Releases 10 Minute Preview Of New TV Show Adaptation [VIDEO]

Watch The First Ten Minutes Of 12 Monkeys

Later this month, Syfy will be premiering their new show, 12 Monkeys, an adaptation of the 1995 film. The new show will follow the movie and almost 10 minutes worth of the first episode has been released.

The Walking Dead Will See Big Changes In the Coming Season, Will Carl Be One Of Them?

The television show, for the most part, follows the storyline of the movie. A time traveler by the name of James Cole (Aaron Stanford) goes back in time to stop a deadly virus that will wipe out a massive amount of the population.

The information about what lead to the outbreak is sketchy at best so Cole must piece together what has happened to the world. They know that a group known as, "The Gang of Twelve Monkeys" are involved. Or at least they think they know.

Will Freddy Be Facing Off Against Jason Again? There's A Good Chance The Answer Is Yes

It's a tricky situation. Even people who watched the movie aren't always sure of what happened.

The footage released by Yahoo TV shows the first almost 10 minutes of the show. In the movie, humanity lives underground and most of the future you see happens there. In the preview we're treated to a look at the frozen world above.

You also see Cole and his "sidekick" Dr. Cassandra Riley (Amanda Schull) who helps him in the past while he's trying to unwind the truth of the outbreak. Also, Cole seems to be less of a prisoner and more of an actual agent of change. Also to note, there was an easy way for him to prove his time traveling to Riley.

Anyone who has seen the movie knows that Cole is stuck in a time loop. A long one, but a time loop nonetheless. The show will supposedly be expanding on the themes of the original movie. How they will do this without ruining the source material remains to be seen.

You can catch the premiere of Twelve Monkeys on Syfy Friday, January 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
