American Horror Story Season Five May Be Set In Present Day

American Horror Story is ending its fourth season this week. Fans have been anxiously awaiting the coming of season five with many theories regarding what is going to happen in the new season. FX has opened up some about what fans can expect. Spoiler alert, it's going to be different.

In an interview with TV Line, FX CEO John Landgraf opened up about the coming season.

"I think there's going to be an unusually large reinvention in between Book 4 and Book 5 relative to, say, between Book 3 [Coven] and 4 [Freak Show]," Landgraf said.

Landgraf did have a minor hint for fans trying to figure out the next season. Season five is an odd number and the theme so far has been to return to present time on the odds.

"That's my hope, yeah," Landgraf replied when asked if this trend would continue. Meaning that ideas that the next season will be "Operation Top Hat" would be out of the window completely.

Every season of AHS has been drastically different from the last however, and there have also been complaints about the anthology horror show losing some of its charm in the last two season, with Freak Show being particularly lackluster.

Part of the issue may be the loss of some of its mystery. The first two seasons were truer to the anthology format, which left fans to figure out what was going on up to the last episode whereas in both Coven and Freak Show, watching is less about seeing who the real villain is and more about who's going to die next.

Hopefully one of the changes they make in the new season is bringing back that good old horror from the first two seasons.

American Horror Story: Freak Show wraps up on Wednesday on FX.
