The First Fantastic Four Reboot Teaser Trailer Is So Emo [VIDEO]

The Fantastic Four Teaser Trailer Features The Four, But Not So Much The Fantastic

After months of speculation, filming, refilming, doubt and worrying if we'd ever actually see any footage of Fox's reboot of the Fantastic Four, the teaser trailer has arrived.

Lady Hammerlock Is As Cold As Ice In The Latest Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! DLC

My word, the emotions! The gravity! The strings! The melodrama! This is a serious movie, people. It even features the standard 'Marvel beam of light' shooting up into the skies. Hardly anybody talks, save for a cryptic voiceover about 'the next step'.

For a moment, I thought I was watching a Warner Bros DC movie (or just a recut of the Ant Man trailer - you could switch the voiceovers and they'd practically be identical). So self-serious, so full of importance and that most important of all elements: realism. Grittiness. 'Grittalism', to use a dear friend's word.

Hands On WIth Nine Of The Titles From This Year's Global Game Jam!

We're still about six months out from the August 7 release date, which is about the same time as another cosmic adventure came out last year that ended up doing really well (and you have to know that both Fox and Marvel know this). This is simply 'the announcement trailer'. "We're here, we're real. Stop doubting our non-existence."

One does not hire Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller, two of the most charismatic young actors working today, and not have them at least bantering and turning up the charm. Leave the huffy seriousness to Kate Mara, who is obviously going to be the wet blanket on the boys' fun (because that's what women in Marvel films - nay, all action films - do).

2015. You feel different. Yes, we have Age of Ultron coming out, but we also have Ant Man (from Marvel proper) and now this. These latter two have looked like generic, typical adventure-action-scifi films, wrapped in a Marvel suit.
