Netflix Daredevil Trailer Released; A Grim And Gritty Matt Murdock Takes On The Seedy Side Of NYC [VIDEO]

The Netflix Daredevil Trailer Certainly Emphasizes The 'Devil' Part; A Whole Lot Of Darkness Coming At You

At long last, Marvel has released the teaser trailer for their upcoming Netflix series, Daredevil.

Season 5 Of American Horror Story Gets Some Familiar Faces

Watch the trailer below. Daredevil looks to separate itself from Marvel's two other shows, the pop procedural (and now infinitely better) Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and the limited-run pulp adventure Agent Carter, both on ABC.

Daredevil, on the other hand, looks right at home inside the DC universe, all harsh lighting and grittiness. I half expected Stephen Amell to show up and start shooting people alongside Henry Cavill needlessly destroying most of New York City.

Will SHE, You Know, SHE, Finally Be Coming To Game Of Thrones?

Also, nerd alert: it's not the red suit and omg, why Kevin Feige?!

Daredevil, however, is a dark character. The (once) mean streets of "Midtown West" (formerly Hell's Kitchen) were a rough place to live and crime was rampant. They needed less of a hero and more of a warrior. Enter Matt Murdock, who tries to manage the rot and corruption as a lawyer by day but who gets fed up with the bureaucracy and takes matter into his own hands.

The 13 episode series will debut on April 10 as part of Marvel's deal with Netflix, which will bring three of their other 'street-level' heroes to the small screen: Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The four will come together in a Defenders crossover at a later date, in theory to take down the big bad of NYC, Wilson Fisk, aka The Kingpin, whose iconic bald head is seen briefly from the back in the trailer.

One does hope the show has at least a little bit of fun with itself. At the end of the day, these are people who dress up in funny costumes and do the right thing. The Marvel humor is half the charm of the films, let's hope the upcoming shows can keep up.

IGN has an interview with executive producer/showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, who goes into more detail on the Man Without Fear. Daredevil hits the streaming service on April 10.
