The Walking Dead is only a few more days away and fans don't know what to expect. One thing that is for sure, it will not be the same old show starting with the season five back half.

Scott Gimple, showrunner, confirmed during Tuesday's Google Hangout that fans would be seeing a different sort of show in the back half of the season and that the shift in action and characters would continue through coming seasons.

Creator Robert Kirkman also opened up to Entertainment Weekly about the coming changes that fans would see in the first episode of the back half.

"That is going to be a fan-favorite episode in a lot of ways, and it's going to be a fan-hated episode in a lot of ways. Because it is somewhat brutal. But there's a lot of magic in that as well. It's going to be very unique," Kirkman said.

Brutal? The opening of the season is usually a safe space for viewers but with a few characters on the suspected chopping block, we may open to a world that is not so kind.

There's also the question of new characters that will be joining the party. Recent synopsis point to a few new grungy faces among the crowd.

"I think by the end of the season we're carrying more characters than we've ever had in the whole other five years," Andrew Lincoln, the actor that portrays Rick Grimes, said. Generally, they lose people, not add them. Perhaps the rumored more aggressive stance of the team will help keep them all alive longer.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC this Sunday February 8.
