'Hiveswap' Release Date Announced: 'Homestuck' Spinoff Adventure Game Releases This Spring

Homestuck Creator Announces Hiveswap, A Brand New Standalone Title For The Spring

Homestuck was a huge webcomic hit, so huge that fans gave the creator $2.4 million dollars through Kickstarter to develop a video game. That game has finally come. Hiveswap is a point and click adventure title based on the webcomic that will debut this spring.

Hiveswap follows a girl named Joey that gets sucked through a portal to the planet of Alternia. She teams up with a group of troll rebels and then begins an adventure to save the world and find a way home. The game has 3D graphics and puzzle solving gameplay.

The story is broken up into four acts which will be released throughout 2015.

Even though Homestuck has a massive following, you don't have to be into the comic to play this game. Hiveswap is a standalone adventure with new characters and new story.

"Homestuck itself has always been sort of a mock adventure game, one the reader 'plays' by navigating the story, but what started relatively simply has developed into a huge world with its own lore and backstory," creator Andrew Hussie said of the new game. "Bringing all this to an actual adventure game is a natural next step for the license -- one we hope existing fans will love, but that should also appeal to anyone who enjoys the point-and-click style games I grew up playing, even if you've never heard of Homestuck."

If you didn't join the Kickstarter, you can sign up on the website for news of the coming release.

Hiveswap will be available for PC, Mac, and Linux systems in the spring.
