Standalone Wolfenstein Prequel 'The Old Blood' Releases In May, Will Debut Footage At PAX East This Weekend [FIRST GAMEPLAY TRAILER]

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood Announced! Standalone Prequel Is Set Back In WW2, Still Stars B.J.

Bethesda Softworks has today announced a standalone prequel to Wolfenstein: The New Order, which is titled Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. They have given us a first look via this wonderful gameplay trailer (beloew), which reveals new weapons, new enemies, and the same old hero.

First Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide Bloody And Beautiful Gameplay Footage Revealed At GDC

Let's not mince words here- Wolfenstein: The New Order was likely the best game of 2014. We still don't really understand how it's possible that a reboot of the game that kicked off first-person shooters as we know it could serve to be the shining modern example of it, but it was, and it offered a story that was more compelling and affecting than any other AAA title of last year.

Now The Old Blood will be a prequel that takes place back in familiar territory, World War II at the end in 1946. You once again play B.J. Blazkowicz, who is still fighting the (losing) fight and trying to embark on a mission to General Deathshead's compound. It will be split up into two parts: Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves pits B.J. Blazkowicz against "a maniacal prison warden as he breaks into Castle Wolfenstein in an attempt to steal the coordinates to General Deathshead's compound." Part two is titled The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs and sees B.J. heading "to the city of Wulfburg where an obsessed Nazi archaeologist is exhuming mysterious artifacts that threaten to unleash a dark and ancient power."

“Diving back into the world of Wolfenstein has really been fun for us,” said Jerk Gustafsson, executive producer at MachineGames. “We’ve enjoyed exploring the events leading up to The New Order. We think fans will really enjoy the story, all the action and, of course, jumping back into the combat with new weapons.”

Wolfenstein: The New Order will hit May 5, 2015 and cost $19.99. New gameplay footage will debut this Friday and Saturday at PAX East, and be made available on twitch.tv/twitch.
