Titanfall 2 News: Sequel To Respawn's Online Shooter Confirmed, Will Be Multiplatform

Titanfall 2 Confirmed, Sequel To Respawn's Online Shooter Will Be Multiplatform

It's apparently sequel day, as Respawn Entertainment has confirmed Titanfall 2 (and revealed some details) in the midst of Star Wars movie reveals and Frozen 2 announcements.

Star Wars Episode VIII Release Date Announced, Rian Johnson Named As Director

Speaking to IGN ahead of the BAFTA Awards, Respawn founder and CEO Vince Zampella acknowledged the sequel that we all knew was coming, but couldn't reveal much information.

"I guess EA announced a sequel, so I could play coy and pretend I don't know anything about it, or... yeah. So we're working on a sequel. No official name yet, but we're working on that. That's the main focus but we're starting up a second team and doing some smaller stuff too. Small, exploratory, taking it slow! It'll be multiplatform."

Multiplatform could technically mean Xbox and PC (like the first game), but the wording is usually more associated with titles that appear on both Xbox and PlayStation. Another quote from Respawn COO Dusty Welch backs up that speculation, commenting that "platform" comes to him right away when asked if there was anything they could change about Titanfall. Zampella explains that they wouldn't have been able to get the game off the ground without the exclusivity deal, a business decision that had to be made to begin the franchise.

"If we could do it though?" Welch said. "It would have been prohibitive to do that - we definitely made the right choices for the right reasons - but if you're saying what would we have liked to have done? The opportunity to be multiplatform could have made it even more significant for us."

There are a few more quotes about multiplayer only and DLC in the original article at IGN if you'd like to read more. Stay tuned for details for Titanfall 2 (if that's even the name) as the year goes on.
