Apple's Posted Bond is a Nail in Samsung's Coffin

We mentioned earlier the results of the case of Apple V Samsung for patent infringment. Judge Koh issued a sales injunction against Samsung that would begin once Apple posted a $2.6 million bond. Well, Apple's taken care of that tab, reports FossPatents:

"Apple didn't hesitate to post its $2.6 million bond to protect Samsung against the possibility of a successful appeal, in which case the preliminary injunction would be found to have been improperly granted... the injunction has taken effect and Samsung must abide by it. Otherwise Apple could ask the court to sanction Samsung for contempt."

Now, two and a half million dollars may seem like a lot of money to you and me. Well, me definitely. But not Apple. They pulled in close to $40 billion last quarter. Not last year, last QUARTER. They made almost $40 billion in 3 months. So obviously, $2.5 million is chump change to them.

Despite the injunction, Samsung was afforded a bit of wiggle room. They will be able to offer a tablet, provided it is re-designed and does not infringe on the iPad's design.

Following in what is the tradition in the U.S. court system, Samsung requesting that the court stay the injunction pending an appeal to the Federal Circuit court. Judge Koh will hear arguments on whether the stay will be granted or denied. Koh will also hear on more than 20 other lawsuits still ongoing between Apple and Samsung.
