'Guitar Hero Live' Revealed: Will Feature First-Person Mode, Redesigned Fender Controller

Activision is hosting a big secret event in NYC today but the cat's already out of the bag- they're going to be announcing a new Guitar Hero today, apparently called Guitar Hero Live.

The news comes from a Yahoo France report, which was first noticed on the French newspaper Le Monde before it was pulled offline. Guitar Hero Live is apparently being developed by FreeStyleGames, the studio behind DJ Hero.

The biggest change for the rebooted series is a shift to the a first-person mode, something a teaser trailer which popped up yesterday seems to confirm. That's an interesting take on the series but seems more suited for first-person play, and less about the band rocking out together (ahem).

The other new feature is a new guitar controller peripheral, which will have six black and white notes that are divided into two rows of three. In the trailer we see the guitarist playing with a Fender pick, seeming to indicate that they will continue their relationship, perhaps by offering another Stratocaster.

Don't forget that Rock Band will be returning for another installment this year as well, offering backwards compatibiliy with its massive DLC library. We'll see if Activision offers something similar with Guitar Hero Live.

We are attending the event today and will be back with full details!
