Endnight Games have transfered their entire survival-horror title into Unity 5 in version 0.16, requiring an overhaul of the game's graphics and many of its models. That sounds like a lot of work for a game that was already well underway!

"Wow this was a big one! This patch switches The Forest over to Unity 5," the patch notes read. "Replacing all the old shaders with new PBR materials and textures. We also went and replaced almost all our tree models, implemented a new billboarding system, and put in a first version of our new ocean shader.

"Plant shaders now have sub surface scattering, our skin shaders have been rewritten, and many other visual tweaks and improvements have been made to the look of the world, we're really excited to hear what you think."

Multiplayer has also been improved and should play more smoothly from now on. There are also some new graphics options to help the game run across a better range of systems (namely a slider from Ultra to Ultra low view distance), improvements to animal behavior, and audio upgrades. Additionally, there's a new feature in which you watch the cannibals drag you to the cave, so you can track where exactly you were taken.

The full changelog is quite long and includes many specific graphics and gameplay fixes--head over to the Steam announcement to read the full bulleted list.
