'Axiom Verge' Steam Release Date Announced: Retro Metroidvania Title Arrives Next Month, Vita Version Coming Soon [TRAILER]

GOTY Contender 'Axiom Verge' Lands On PC Steam In May

The era of retro-platformers continues unabated. After a tremendous showing on the PS4, Axiom Verge is heading to PC Steam on May 14.

The platforming title, which our own Alex Riviello declared was "not a Metroidvania game, but a straight up Metroid game", was developed over five years by Tom Happ on his off-hours. The Steam (and Humble) version will come with the game's over 900 non-linear rooms, purposeful glitches, as well as new Steam Cloud saves and Trading Cards.

The game will cost $19.99 upon release. In addition to the Steam release, a Vita version - featuring cross-play functionality - will also be available at a later date. So you can take Axiom Verge with you wherever you go.

Rest assured, that price point will be holding for a while. Tom Happ has promised that any sale of the game will be announced well in advance, so you won't ever purchase the game on a Wednesday, only to discover on Thursday that it is now half-off.

Need more? "Axiom Verge is so well-crafted that it absolutely belongs in your library, providing plenty of nostalgia flashbacks for old-school Metroid fans and a thorough lesson of what the new generation of gamers are currently missing."

2015 is still young, but it's safe to say that we can expect to see Axiom Verge standing atop the rubble when the dust of this year settles. Try it for yourself now on PS4, and in three weeks when it hits PC platforms. Watch the Steam trailer below.
