Mojang has announced several additions to Minecraft, including new player skins and some Xbox 360 extras.

Every player respects Steve, the game's default character, but he's the only option for a player character beyond user-created or DLC skin packs. As such, Mojang is introducing Alex on all platforms, a female player character with red hair and a ponytail. She will be made available for free this Wednesday, April 29. There's no image of Alex just yet.

In other news, the formerly Xbox-exclusive The Simpsons skins are coming to PlayStation. A collaboration between the show's rights holders and Microsoft brought the Simpsons family and other Springfield characters into the game with a paid DLC pack, which will be available on PS3 and PS4. It, too, will be available Wednesday (but not for free). Characters beyond the core Simpsons family include Principal Seymour Skinner, Groundskeeper Willie, Dewey Largo, and many more.

More achievements are on the way for Xbox 360, which actually had fewer than the Xbox One version. Mojang is remedying this with 30 new achievements for Xbox 360 only, bringing the potential Gamerscore for Minecraft on Xbox 360 to a cool 1,000. Finally, the update will add new music for the Xbox 360 version of the game, bringing more of C418's tunes to the system.
