Batman Goes Silver Age for Arkham City Developers

The Rocksteady crew are going back to the source for the Caped Crusader. The untitled Batman game will focus on the Silver Age including Batman meeting other iconic DC Universe heroes like Superman, Aquaman and his first encoutners with the Joker according to Variety.

This comes on the heels of Injustice: Gods Among Us and Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, which are showcasing Warner Brothers Interactive's new push to bring all their properties together. Likewise in the film world, after Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises comes out next week, the Batman film properties will be rebooted for a scheduled Justice League film.

The untitled Silver Age game wouldn't be remotely ready until 2014, so there won't be any word or information aside from the setting for a while. But it's interesting to see the push back from the gritty realism that Nolan and the Arkham games flourished under are being dropped for a universal, family-friendly format. Even for going back to the 1950s-60s of the Silver Age, which could fall more in line with the now-canceled animated show Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
