The championships of the FIFA Interactive World Cup have come to a close, with football's governing body naming a new champion from among the best FIFA 15 players in the world.
Abdulaziz Alshehri from Saudi Arabia was crowned the 2015 winner at the Grand Finals event held in Munich, Germany. The player defeated France's Julien Dassonville in the final by a score of 3-0, and you can watch a lead-up and highlights video below.
It was Alshehri's third time making the final, having appeared in 2012 and 2013 previously. Dassonville and third-place finisher August Rosenmeier both reached their fourth Grand Finals by appearing this year. Alshehri was the fourth-ranked FIWC player going in to the event, while Dassonville was second.
To the surprise of the contestants and audience, FC Bayern Munich's own David Alaba was on hand to present the trophy to Alshehri. The young Austrian fullback is an avid player of EA's FIFAfranchise himself, and has appeared on the Austrian cover of the game three times in the past.
Alshehri's team of choice in the final was Portugal, useful due namely to the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo, while Dassonville used Argentina. Despite the Frenchman's clear skill, he had trouble creating chances, while Alshehri opened the scoring with a dribble and shot from Ronaldo. Before halftime the eventual champion doubled his lead again from Ronaldo with a cross into the box that ended in a headed goal, and repeated the setup again for a third goal in the second half that sealed the win.
