Bandai Namco Announces Final Shutdown Of Free To Play SoulCalibur: Lost Swords On November 30

Bandai Namco confirmed that the free to play PlayStation 3's SoulCalibur: Lost Swords will finally shutdown by November 30th this year. The multiplatform game was inspired by its sibling SoulCalibur V, Lost Swords, which is also a weapon-based action game and single player action game that is supported by a microtransactions platform.

Gameplay wise, SoulCalibur: Lost Swords goes around a single player Quest Mode wherein players will have to duke it out with Artificial Intelligence (AI) opponents and collect materials in order to fabricate new weapons. The game is free to download, but the character costumes, abilities, and other bonuses should be purchased through the in-game store using real money.

The game was downloaded 2 million times since its release in 2014, but has received too much criticism due to its pay to win mechanics, which credits the player who had spent the most money in upgrading their respective characters.

Aside from SoulCalibur: Lost Swords, publisher Bandai Namco, has also released similar format games such as the Tekken Revolution, which is a spinoff of the popular Tekken series, but only offers limited online matches within a time period. The limits of the game, of course, can be lifted with an in game purchase.

Another free to play Bandai Namco published game, is the aerial combat game called Ace Combat Infinity. The game features unlockable planes, skins, weapons, and equipment, and like the Tekken Revolution and SoulCalibur: Lost Swords, the game also requires in-game purchases to fully optimize the full potential of the game.

SoulCalibur: Lost Swords will uproot huge numbers of its features on September 30, and all paid contents will be delisted from the PlayStation Network by October 27. There will be a last commemoration event, which will happen in-game between September 16 and September 30. All SoulCalibur: Lost Swords gameplay modes will close down on November 30.
