The World's Biggest Solid State Drive is Ready to Be Shipped on February

The biggest solid state drive ever is already available, with a whopping 13 TB of space. Wow! 13 Terabytes ladies and gentlemen! Imagine all the games and movies you can put in that space!

However that huge space doesn't come cheap.  Sadly, while SSDs are great for boosting PC performance, they are way more expensive than traditional hard-drives, and the Fixstars 13 TB SSD is no exception. The Solid State Drive will cost you $1 per gigabyte, for a total amount of $13,000 USD! That is one SSD that will cost you a lot and may turn out to be a one -time investment for really hardcore gamers.

PC World revealed that the SSD will be available for shipping at the end of February directly from Fixstars and won't be sold through retailers. The SSD offers fast read-write speeds of "up to 580/520 MB/s," according to the Fixstars.

That 13TB of space can store over 1900 hours of broadcast-quality HD video, or about 4.3 hours of uncompressed 4K video running at 60 fps. Too good to be true? Yes, it sounds  amazing, but are you willing to blow 13k USD on that?

The SSD's debut ahead of a comparably spacious spinning platter hard disk indicates the degree to which SSDs are rapidly replacing traditional hard drives. However, for those who can't afford it yet, our old-school Hard Drives should work just fine with regular maintenance.

However, this particular drive isn't really aimed for gamers but rather commercial, high-end applications like streaming video or other uses where speed and capacity are an alleviating factor. "As fewer drives will be needed, it follows that operational costs" will be reduced, Fixstars mentioned on its webpage.

Gargantuan capacity SSDs are now a reality, and will almost certainly become cheaper in price to eventually exist inside everyone's gaming rig.
