Thomas Jane Returns as The Punisher

In the final days of Comic-con, a small number of fans got a view of some interesting stuff at RAW Studios' panel. A video game adaptation here, a Western there, and Marvel's greatest anti-hero at dead center. Former Punisher Thomas Jane hired writer Chad St.Johnand director Phil Joanou to bring him back.

But don't get too excited just yet. This isn't (yet) a sign of things to come, as Marvel had nothing to do with this movie. Thomas Jane made "Dirty Laundry" was made as a fan film only, saying, "I wanted to make a fan film for a character I've always loved and believed in - a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It's been a blast to be a part of from start to finish - we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it."

Dirty Laundry is generating huge buzz on the internet. Though it didn't perform as well as other Marvel films, Jane's version of the Punisher in 2004 was one of my favorites (Dolph Lundgren's rendition was pretty easy to top), especially after seeing Ray Stevenson slip in and out of accents in "Punisher: War Zone." I actually get mad at his character struggling to fire a gun in Stephen King's "Dreamcatcher" because his time as the Punisher is so ingrained in my head.

Hopefully the buzz generated can help spark Jane's return to the silver screen as Castle, or at least some kind of web series, not unlike  Kevin Tancharoen's Mortal Kombat series, Legacy, but Marvel's been quiet on returning Jane to the role of Marvel's best badass.
