Acer Gaming Smartphone Release Date & Price: New 'Predator' Device Could Be Launching Soon

It isn't hard to see how mobile gaming beats all other platforms in terms of convenience. With smartphones good to carry almost anywhere and games playable offline, passing a level or two has never been more satisfying. At this point, it is safe to say that there are users who spend more of their smartphone time playing than Facebook-ing, and they are a potential market.

Acer is among those who seek to serve this market. Earlier this month, the Taiwanese manufacturer turned heads as news of its new gaming smartphone popped online. The information comes from Chinese outlet Commercial Times, which points the device's arrival in this year's fourth quarter. ST Liew, president of Acer's Smart Product Business Group (SPBG), is cited in the report.

This means the handset could be launched the earliest in October, and it isn't bad to expect some details beforehand. In fact, Liew has already revealed its selling price, which would be from $499 to $599, DigiTimes notes. Furthermore, Acer aims to launch five smartphones this year, the cheapest of which will cost $200.

It is said that the company is currently working to improve specs and features of the gaming smartphone, which includes battery life, heat dissipation and related software. There is no doubt that battery life will be one of the most critical concerns of prospective users, and we're excited to see how it fares.

Acer has been developing gaming-oriented products for quite some time now, with last year's Predator 6 smartphone and Predator 8 tablet being noteworthy to mention. Last month, the company also revealed two new gaming computers, the Predator 17X laptop and Predator G1 desktop. This leaves us wondering whether or not the Q4 2016 gaming handset carries the Predator moniker, though, given what we know so far, seems likely.

The Predator 6 comes with a a deca-core MediaTek processor complemented by 4GB of RAM. It has a 21MP camera, a spacious 6-inch HD display and a haptic feedback mechanism which gives it a controller-like behavior, GSM Arena writes.
