Red Dead Redemption 2': Are You Ready for Rockstar's Sequel?

Fans of "Red Dead Redemption" - Rockstar Games' action-adventure title in 2010 - are looking out to hear more updates on the game's sequel soon. Speculations over the franchise's next installment have long been sprouting across the Internet grapevine, but thanks to recent word, prospects are now at the edge of their seats.

Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, recently confirmed that new games are underway. This bit of detail comes from the company's latest earnings report, GameSpot says. It teases, "Rockstar Games is of course hard at work on some exciting future projects that will be revealed soon."

While no specific information has been tipped, the upcoming E3 2016 is giving off light to many expectations. Dave Thier of Forbes is convinced that a "Red Dead Redemption" title will arrive before a new "Grand Theft Auto."

Last month, the alleged map for "Red Dead Redemption 2" leaked from NeoGaf. It was taken down immediately, but because this is the Internet, it lives on. According to TechRadar, their "own independent source" confirmed the leak as real, and apparently a "very recent" one.

But, can we really expect a "Red Dead Redemption" sequel? To answer this question, we take a look back at Rockstar's official statements. In June 2014, Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick called the title a "permanent franchise."

Speaking at the time's Cowen and Company Analyst conference, he said, "It's obvious that 'GTA' is a permanent franchise as long as we keep delivering this incredible quality; it seems quite obvious that 'Red Dead' is a permanent franchise, again with the same caveat, or 'Borderlands,' for example, and 'NBA' and others."

That being said, the anticipation over "Red Dead Redemption 2," or whatever it is called, will only be a matter of time. Forbes' Dave Thier predicts that the game's arrival will be latest in 2017.

E3 2016 takes place in Los Angeles, California on June 12 to 16. The event is expected to showcase the biggest games in 2016 and beyond.
