'Transformers: Combiner Wars' Is Coming To TV; Focus On Revised Gestalt-Robots From The 80s

"Transformers: Combiner Wars" is set to launch on TV soon. The new series will feature the current state of Cybertron on digital.

In 2015, "Transformers: Combiner Wars" was borne out of a collaboration between Hasbro and the IDW story. The story is set near the end of a war on Cybertron. The hypothetical alternate G1 setup featured the Autobots and Decepticons returning to Cybertron after the Great Earth War, while Optimus Prime and Megatron are already referred to in the past-tense. However, a new conflict is set to begin soon which will be presented in the all-new animated series.

Collider revealed that Machinima developed and produced "Transformers: Combiner Wars" as their initial digital-first series. It will debut on go90, a social entertainment platform, in the United States, AMC Networks International Iberia in Portugal and Spain, as well as in other territories. A panel at Cannes Lions Festival co-hosted by Hasbro Inc. and Machinima provided a first glimpse of the series. ComicBook posted some of the first photos from the upcoming series.

Fans who are not familiar with plot of "Transformers: Combiner Wars" will get help from the mini-series "Prelude to the Combiner Wars." It consists of four episodes that will be narrated in four distinct perspectives to showcase the present condition of Cybertron. The prelude will help viewers become more familiar with the characters and events that lead up to the full series in the summer. The prelude will launch on go90, YouTube and Facebook on June 28, 2016.

According to Stephen Davis, Chief Content Officer of Hasbro, he is excited to partner with Machinima to tell a new kind of story in "Transformers: Combiner Wars" for the digital generation. The creative team and voice actors behind the series are all true fans of the franchise and their passion for the characters will be reflected in the work. Chad Gutstein, CEO of Machinima added that they are thrilled to work with Hasbro and that the project is a real effort by the fans, for the fans.

ScreenRant wrote that the Combiner Wars line put emphasis on team characters, such as the Aerialbots, Terracons, Constructicons and more. These were generally themed sets of vehicles that can combine to create a larger robot. The figures can also mix and match parts between various combinations. Fans can watch the new Transformer series on Aug. 2, 2016 in the U.S. Viewing in other territories will be announced on later dates.
