'Ant-Man 2' News, Spoilers, Release Date: Hero Will Team Up With The Wasp In Sequel

Following "Ant-Man"'s box office hit in 2015 ($519 million, no big deal), it seems that the film has changed the mind of skeptics who thought that the movie would fail, or that it was merely Marvel trying to find a way to stay relevant coming towards the end of bigger franchises, like "Iron-Man," "Captain America," "Thor," and "The Avengers." "Ant-Man," however, has proven to be a major player that could carry the Marvel torch into the coming years. In fact, Comic Book reports that the film is just fresh off its win at the 42nd Saturn Awards, where it was recognized with the Best Comic-to-Film Motion Picture Award. "Ant-Man" stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly and director Peyton Reed were also nominated for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Director, respectively.

With great success, of course, comes a great sequel. Director Peyton Reed told Modern Myth Media that they are currently writing the sequel to the 2015 film, which will be titled "Ant-Man and The Wasp," giving Lilly's Hope van Dyne a bigger role than when she was introduced in last year's film.

"It’s something we’re excited about. For me as a comic nerd, I always thought of Ant-Man and Wasp as a team and that’s a lot of what the second movie is really about is how they work together, what their personal and professional relationships are like," Reed explained. "To show her finally fully formed in this movie is really exciting...we haven’t seen her with her full power set and everything, so to me she’s not a supporting character in this movie. It’s every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang’s. "

Because of the dynamic Ant-Man has with the Avengers (he played a significant role in this year's "Captain America: Civil War"), Reed says that there is a lot more to take into consideration when telling Scott Lang's story. He said that "there will be some big leaps forward" in the upcoming film, as Scott Lang is "a bigger fugitive now."

How The Wasp will play into Ant-Man's fugitive status remains to be seen, when the film comes out on July 6, 2018.
