Nintendo Aims To Break Guinness World Record at PAX Prime in Honor of Kirby's 20th Anniversary

How the time flies. It was 20 some years ago that the little bright eyed pink ball known as Kirby debuted on Nintendo's Game Boy in Kirby's Dream Land. The first game was fairly simple. Kirby didn't yet have his trademark copy ability, but he certainly did suck. And interestinly enough, he was also pure white back then. But as Kirby evolved with each new game release, he became that much more adored by the fans. Now considered one of the company mascots, Nintendo has something planned to celebrate 20 years of Kirby, and it's happening at this year's PAX Prime.

What's the best thing that a whole bunch of people can do to honor a pink blob capable of inflating himself with air to float to the sky? Chewing gum seems pretty obvious, and that's the exact road Nintendo is taking. On September 1, any one attending PAX Prime that wants to be part of Nintendo history and break a Guinness World Record should head to the Expo Hall Queue Area, Level 4 Room 4A, at 1 P.M. There Nintendo and company will attempt to break the to break the standing world record for the number of people simultaneously blowing a chewing gum bubble.

70,000 attendees are expected to attend PAX Prime this year. The standing record is at 304 people, so Nintendo should end up rather sucessful. Personally, Kirby evokes thoughts of marshmallows more than chewing gum, but hey, to each his own.

PAX Prime kicks off in 4 days, and unfortunately tickets are all sold out. To further celebrate the anniversary, Kirby's Dream Collection: Special Edition is coming to the US September 16. Collecting six of the Kirby games, including Kirby's Adventure, Kirby's Super Star, Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby's Dream Land 2, Dream Land 3 and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, the collection spans the last two decades of Nintendo's own console releases in a weird twist.
