Marvel Superhero Comic Features Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau On The Cover

A Marvel comic book featured Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on its cover. The politician will be appearing in a spin-off story of "Civil War II," focusing on Alpha Flight.

The comic, titled "Civil War II: Choosing Sides #5," showcases Justin Trudeau sitting in one corner of a boxing ring. He had red gloves on and was wearing a tank designed after the red and white Canadian flag.

Behind him were other members of the Canadian Alpha Flight group, Puck, Sasquatch and Aurora. Iron Man can also be spotted further behind them. The Prime Minister was smiling and appeared very composed.

CBC News revealed that the Marvel comic book with Justin Trudeau on the cover was written by Chip Zdarsky and drawn by Ramon Perez.

The plot will delve on Alpha Flight trying to determine its allegiances, considering the recent clash among other Marvel superheroes. Ulysses, a new mysterious character, will be a big factor in the plot as well.

Zdarsky said that compared to previous stories where characters like Trudeau merely get rescued by superheroes, the new comic actually gets the politician more involved by engaging the fictitious characters in an ethical debate.

Zdarsky explained that he had to consider where Trudeau may actually stand on certain issues, how he would handle the situation and what he would say.

Although he never spoke to Justin regarding the comic issue, the writer hopes that the former will appreciate what he has done to the fan fiction character.

As for artist Perez, he shared that he did not want to make a stuffy cover, which would generally feature Justin in a suit and tie.

He wanted to evoke something different about the man that would put him in a different light from other people in power. Drawing the head of state in a manner that made him more like an everyday person was fun.

The variant cover with Trudeau will actually be an alternative to the main cover in circulation featuring the characters behind him in the boxing ring and Nick Fury.

It is not actually the first time that a member of Trudeau's family was featured in a Marvel comic book.

Justin's father, late former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, was also featured in "Uncanny X-Men #120," where he demanded that the first Alpha Flight incarnation bring back Wolverine from the United States.

"Civil War II: Choosing Sides #5" with Justin Trudeau will release in August 2016.
