Anna Kendrick Wants To Be A Marvel Superhero

"Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates" and "Trolls" actress Anna Kendrick wants to be a Marvel superhero (really, who doesn't?), and with the heaping box office cash flows the Marvel MCU generates, it's no surprise that she would want in on the action. But which particular Marvel femme fatale does she want to play?

"My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her]. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!" the 30-year old actress told Net-A-Porterin her cover story.

But who exactly is Squirrel Girl? (And why isn't she part of the Avengers yet?) Doreen Green alias Squirrel Girl made her debut back in 1992's "Marvel Super-Heroes" Volume 2, #8, and was visually created by Steve Ditko and conceptualized by Will Murray. In the comics, 14-year old Squirrel Girl encounters Iron Man and ambitiously intends to become his sidekick.

She later fights alongside Tony Stark to help him escape captivity from the evil hands of Doctor Doom, whom she defeats. Iron Man, impressed by her capabilities, promises to put in a good word for her in case she decides to join the Avengers one day.

Squirrel Girl could have been an interesting addition to "Captain America: Civil War," as the character actually supported Iron Man's decision and went on to register under the Superhuman Registration Act in the comics.

Back in 2009, Murray shared that he came up with the idea of Squirrel Girl on his own, and was inspired by his previous comic-reading girlfriend who was into wild animals and critters. He told Jazma Online that his ex-girlfriend was also a fan of Ditko, and thanks to the squirrels that kept running on his roof and into his home, he created Doreen Green. He even goes on to say that Squirrel Girl deserves her own project.

"I’ve been thinking of pitching Marvel a Squirrel Girl project. She’s defeated most of the major Marvel super villains. It’s time," Murray told Jazma Online. Check out one artist's concept art for Kendrick as Squirrel Girl below.

"Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates" hits theaters this Friday, July 8.
