To recall, Kai (Chris Wood) put Elena under a spell that made her asleep that connects her life to Bonnie in the finale of "Vampire Diaries" Season 6.
Here, Elena will remain sleep induced as long as Bonnie lives. As Kat Graham is also about to leave "Vampire Diaries," some assume that she will pass away in Season 8 that ignites the return of Nina Dobrev.

In an interview with Us Weekly, via Design & Trend, Kat Graham confirmed that "Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will be the last time she will grace the show.
Now, "Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec revealed to Nerdist that they are thinking of ways to give Kat Graham a wonderful exit.
"Now it's my challenge and the writers challenge to do right by that. We have a year to do it so I'm excited to come up with all the different ways that her character can say goodbye," she said.
"Vampire Diaries" Season 8 is set to be back this fall.
