Google Is Releasing Two HTC Nexus Phones This Year; Here's Everything We Know On 'Sailfish' And 'Marlin'

HTC will be launching two new Nexus phones for Google in 2016. The smaller model is codenamed Sailfish, while the bigger model is codenamed Marlin.

The two HTC Nexus phones reportedly look the same as well as have several common features, although there will be differences in terms of screen size and the battery.

The Sailfish will feature a 5-inch display, while the Marlin will have a bigger 5.5-inch screen. The two models will be made of aluminum, while the back will include a glass or glossy plastic material to probably cover the NFC transmitter and other radios. There will also be antenna bands on the rear of the phones.

GSMArena revealed that the two HTC Nexus phones will come in at least three colors. The mockup version had a black front and back and there will allegedly be another with a white front and silver back and a third with a white front and glossy electric blue back.

The Home button may be redesigned by Google and feature more colors. The leaked image showed a "G" logo on the base of the back, although users should not expect it, or an HTC logo, to appear in the official product.

The Sailfish is said to have a 5-inch 1080p touchscreen, a Snapdragon 820 or 821/823 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 32 or 128GB of internal memory, a 12-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front shooter. It is also said to include a fingerprint scanner on the back, a USB Type-C port, bottom-firing speakers, Bluetooth 4.2 and several connective capabilities.

The Marlin will feature a 5.5-inch QHD screen, although all the other specifications will allegedly be the same as its smaller counterpart. The upcoming 2016 HTC Nexus phones feature a non-protruding camera probably with laser autofocus and a secondary microphone.

Both will arrive with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The Sailfish is powered by a 2,770mAh battery, while the Marlin features a larger 3,450mAh battery.

Android Police reported that the exact dimensions and weight of the HTC Nexus phones are still unknown, so there may be some changes in the edges and curves of the mockup model and final version. The leaked image actually represents both the Sailfish and Marlin, because the two generally have the same overall design and aesthetics.

The price and official launch dates of the phones have yet to be announced. More updates and details are expected soon.
