The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is not expected to come out this year due to parts availability issues. Instead, the word out is the Microsoft will unleash a Surface All-in-One desktop, another curious computing solution that should be interesting to look forward to.

The new breed for Surface AIO desktop will be armed with Windows 10 and likely on an AIO form factor. With problems on the horizon to get the Surface Pro 5 out, this should be a viable solution particularly for businesses.

Kaby Lake Chips Thwart 2016 debut

A reason seen behind the delay of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is the availability of the Kaby Lake chips. The next generation Intel chips has pushed back wholesale production to later this year or early 2017.

Microsoft is not affected by the development, opting to wait until the new chips do come available for the Microsoft Surface Pro 5. This also supports earlier claims that gadgets will hit the market once Microsoft makes the big jump from Windows 10 to Redstone 2.

Surface AIO to debut with Windows 10 Anniversary Update?

While the issue surrounding the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is something that may leave many disappointed, there is another matter that needs to be addressed. This has to do with the expected debut of the Windows 10 Anniversary update which would have been perfect for the Surface Pro 5.

Instead, Digitimes reports that a Surface AIO will instead showcase the next Windows OS which is scheduled for release by Q3 of 2016.

The Surface AIO is considered an alternative to the Surface Book, another casualty of the Kaby Lake chip mass production row.

The Surface AIO is seen as another potshot by Microsoft against Apple’s iMac per BGR. Aside from that, the hybrid device could be Microsoft’s ticket back into the PC fray, a diminishing niche as of late.

With delays to the Surface Pro 5 and the Surface Book until 2017, the Surface AIOs are the new stars of the show. Its arrival is expected anytime from now until September.
