Dead Island: Riptide Gets a Trailer (Watch it Here!)

Last September, the trailer for Dead Island quickly went viral. Played in a non linear style, it shows a family's last stand together while their young daughter turns into a zombie before their eyes. Even before any gameplay footage was shown, or copies of the game ordered, Lionsgate quickly scooped up movie rights, just on the strength of the trailer alone. Now, Techland and Deep Silver are at it again, with the premiere trailer for the sequel, Dead Island: Riptide.

Admittedly, it's not as gripping as the trailer for Dead Island, but it's still a bummer that hits you in the gut.

First and foremost, Riptide is not Dead Island 2. But it is a sequel, so figure that one out. It's set to take place right after the ending of Dead Island. All the survivors thinking they would ride the helicoptor into safety are in for a rude awakening. After getting caught in some choppy weather, the helicoptor is forced to land, and the survivors eventually make their way onto the island of Palanai.

As the name indicates, most of the environment is heavily flooded. Joining the undead as a new threat will be the weather of the environment itself. Torrential ran can limit player vision, and many areas can only be navigated by boat. Riptide also promises new mutated zombies will be introduced. Also, for those who played the first Dead Island, you'll be able to keep your original character and use it again in Riptide.

Dead Island: Riptide is planned to release in 2013 for Windows PC, PS3, and XBox 360. We'll report more information as it becomes available.
