Fans of "Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam may be disappointed to know that the 36-year old will not be returning to "Pacific Rim 2" to reprise his role as Raleigh Becket.
The 2013 Guillermo del Toro-directed hit has long been anticipated to come out with a sequel, but now that a second film is in the works, it seems that it will be an entirely different story set in a time long after the events of "Pacific Rim." In fact, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star John Boyega has been announced to be the lead star of the film, playing the son of Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba) from the first film.
Collider reports that while an early script featured Hunnam's Raleigh as the lead, scheduling conflicts had forced the actor to exit the production. At the moment, no other cast member from the 2013 film had confirmed their return for "Pacific Rim 2." The upcoming film will be directed by "Daredevil"'s Steven S. DeKnight, featuring a script from "Jurassic World"'s Derek Connolly. It is set to hit theaters on February 23, 2018.
Fans need not worry, however, as Hunnam will next appear in the Guy Ritchie-directed "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword," which is set to be released next March. The film will feature the actor in the titular role, alongside Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, and Eric Bana. The film is a reimagining of the story of King Arthur as he gathers men to join his squad and ultimately reclaim his right to the throne. Of course, he also gets to famously pull the sword out of a rock. Check out the trailer below.
Speaking of titular roles, Hunnam is also set to star in thsi year's "The Lost City of Z," which features the actor in the lead role of Colonel Percy Fawcett, and Robert Pattinson as Corporal Henry Costin. Sienna Miller and "Spiderman: Homecoming" actor Tom Holland are also set to star.
"Pacific Rim 2" will be released on February 23, 2018, while "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" will arrive on March 24, 2017.
