The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Release Date: Mary Jane Watson And Electro May Appear In The Sequel

Peter Parker has had two love interest in his life Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson. Gwen was his first and MJ his second. At one point in the comics Watson competed with others for Peters affection, most prominently with Gwen and Felicia Hardy's the Black Cat. It appears this competition will play out on the big screen.

Variety reports that "The Descendants'" Shailene Woodley is in early talks to play Mary Jane in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" for director Marc Webb. Entertainment Weekly has actually confirmed that she has been offered the role.

The film is in the early stages of casting, and according to Variety's report, Woodley is said to be Sony's "top choice for the role." The sequel also is bringing back stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in their roles as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.

A running joke in the comics was Peter evading his Aunt May's attempts to set him up on a blind day with "the Watson girl from next door. Peter had never seen her and assumed that she was not his type. So Woodley's role could simply be a small cameo that could ultimately set up one of the greatest stories ever told in Spider-Man comics, "The Amazing Spider-Man #121."

In the comic, the Green Goblin holds Gwen Stacy captive on a tower of the Brooklyn Bridge. Spider-Man arrives to thwart the Green Goblin, and the villain throws Gwen Stacy off the bridge. Spider-Man attempts to catch her by the leg with a strand of web and pull her up. He believes that he saved her but soon realizes that she has died.

The studio is also looking to cast Harry Osborn for the sequel, but according to Entertainment Weekly, his Father Norman" The Green Goblin" Osborn will not be the villain in the sequel.

In "The Amazing Spider-Man's" post-credit sequence, A Mysterious figure approaches the incarcerated Curt Connor and asks if Peter Parker knows the truth about his father. There appears to be some type of blue electricity in the scene, which has many speculating that the next villain will be Electro.

According to Marvel's official site, "Maxwell Dillon has been one of Spider-Man's most frequent and enduring adversaries." Max is electrocuted while repairing a power line and instead of being killed, the freak accident changes his nervous system, "allowing him to generate and control vast amounts of electricity. After creating a colorful costume, Max turned to a life of crime as Electro."

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is set to release in theaters in 3D on May 2, 2014.
