'Death Stranding' Release Date, Gameplay & Update: 5 Things We Know About Hideo Kojima's 'New System' And 'Permadeath'

"Death Stranding" by Hideo Kojima is currently in the works. The upcoming title is said to feature a new game genre. The game creator did not provide very specific details about "Death Stranding," but here are five things that players can expect.

1. Ropes

IGN said that Kojima mentioned the conceptual ropes in video games. The creator said that in the meantime, players usually have sticks to play with in video games, but "Death Stranding" will showcase ropes instead. Some speculate that players have to rely on specific tools while playing the game. Others suggest that the ropes may refer to "learning the ropes" or basics of the game. Considering how "Death Stranding" is supposed to be a new genre, it should contain all the prerequisites to properly guide players on the new concept.

2. A new genre

The Bitbag wrote that "Death Stranding" will provide several surprises for players. Kojima hinted that the game will be very intriguing and special. The game maker only gave vague information about "Death Stranding," but players should have a unique kind of experience once it releases.

3. Potentially third-person

"Death Stranding" will most likely feature a third-person point of view. Kojima Productions may decide to take on the popularity of third-person shooters by Ubisoft and Naughty Dog. Many fans also prefer seeing Norman Reedus in a third-person perspective. The preferred perspective also allows for a deeper narrative, should Kojima wish to expand its concept of "permadeath."

4. A new system

GameRant cited Kojima in stating that arcade games generally have a particular take of dying. The concept did not change much through the decades, but "Death Stranding" will feature both life and death with a twist. "Death Stranding" may feature the challenge of "permadeath" where the main character can switch between both life and death planes.

5. PlayStation 4 exclusive

The official launch date of "Death Stranding" has yet to be announced, but the game was confirmed to be solely available on PlayStation 4. It is still uncertain whether the game will become available to other platforms in the months after the big release.
