'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 4 Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Show to Stage a Comedy Crossover with 'New Girl'

Superhero series aren't the only ones to crossover this fall TV season, as FOX's biggest hit comedies, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "New Girl" are slated to meet in an hour-long special on Tuesday, October 11. The announcement from FOX came during the Television Critics Association's summer press tour, in which it was also unveiled that the two shows would now be aired one after the other on Tuesdays nights.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, both "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" co-creator Dan Goor and "New Girl" creator Elizabeth Meriwether are being coy about how the two shows are going to crossover, but they both guarantee to bring the laughs come October. Goor said that the squad over at the Nine-Nine are fans of "New Girl" ad that they are "excited to see our characters interact and to work with their incredible writers and producers."

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" ended its third season with yet another cliffhanger: Det. Jake Peralta, played by Golden Globe winner Andy Samberg and Captain Ray Holt, played by Emmy Award winner Andre Braugher were sent to a witness protection program in Florida, once again leaving the squad in a limbo, with no Captain or Jake to steer the wheel.

Entertainment Weekly reported last week that Ken Marino, who most prominently appeared in the now-cancelled "Agent Carter" is heading to "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" to (hopefully temporarily) take the place of Holt as the captain of the precinct. He is reportedly staying for two episodes, just one episode more than Bill Hader's neurotic captain from early on season 3.

Other familiar faces to grace "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" include "Saturday Night Live"'s Maya Rudolph, who will also appear in two episodes as a U.S. Marshall who will coordinate with Jake and Holt during their stay in Florida. Meanwhile, no word yet on who will play the villain-of-the-moment, Figgis, who is still on the run.

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" returns to FOX on September 20.
