'Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV' Release Date, News & Update: Square Enix & Sony Release First 12 Minutes of the Film

In a move most likely to tide over fans before the delayed release of "Final Fantasy XV" in November, Square Enix, together with Sony Pictures Entertainment, has released the first 12 minutes of the "Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV" film. It will be the first time fans in North America could catch a glimpse of the film that was released in Japan in July.

"Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV" was released in Japan back in July, and will see a limited release nationwide this Friday, August 19. It will also be available digitally worldwide beginning August 30. The Japanese computer-animated science fantasy film is directed by Takeshi Nozue, with a story by Takashi Hasegawa. It's directed by Hajime Tabata, and stars Aaron Paul as Nyx Ulric, Sean Bean as Regis Lucis Caelum CXIII, Lena Headey as Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, David Gant as Iedolas Aldercapt, Darin De Paul as Ardyn Izunia, and Trevor Devall as Ravus Nox Fleuret.

According to Coming Soon, "Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV" will follow the story of Regis, the King of Lucis as he protects his magical kingdom against war and evil, and Luna, the princess whose task is to deliver the royal ring of Lucis to Prince Noctis. The film will also find the soldier Nyx fighting to protect their land against the empire. Meanwhile, King Regis will also find himself in a conflict of the heart, as he opposes the marriage of his son, Noctis to Luna, captive of Niflheim, and therefore give up his land to the empire.

"Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV" isn't the first film set in the "Final Fantasy" universe, as back in 2001, "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" was released. It was followed by "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" in 2005. Meanwhile, Square Enix has issued an apology for the delayed arrival of "Final Fantasy XV," which was originally set for a September release. The game will arrive instead on November 29.
