Mass Effect 4 News: Next Entry In the Franchise Is Already In The Early Stages of Development

Bioware's next harvest for gamers' hearts and wallets is in the "early stages" of production. The developer has begun taking steps on its first Shepard-less Mass Effect game, according to a tweet from executive producer Casey Hudson that was reported by IGN.

"We're in early stages of designing a completely new Mass Effect game," Hudsun tweeted. "What would you want to see in it?"

BioWare Edmonton and Montreal general manager Aaryn Flynn hinted at a new game in the series back in September when he said, "the Mass Effect universe is vast, and Casey and our teams have plans for another full game." The hint came during Bioware's announcement of Mass Effect 3's Omega DLC.

In that same Bioware blog post, Flynn said that "We are releasing more multiplayer content and we have more single-player stories coming throughout the next six months, including Omega which is coming in the Fall."

As for Mass Effect 4, not much is known except that the lead character will not be Commander Shepard and that the new protagonist will be different than Shepard. According to a recent interview with VG247, Bioware Montreal Produce Fabrice Condominas confirmed that the new series would be a completely new experience in the Mass Effect Universe.

"There is one thing we are absolutely sure of - there will be no more Shepard, and the trilogy is over," Condomina told VG247. "This is really our starting point. Now the Mass Effect universe is vast, and very, very rich. So at this point in time, we don't even know what kind of time frame we're going to be in. All we're doing is more gathering ideas from the teams, gathering feedback to see several things."

The aformentioned Mass Effect 3 Omega DLC  will release on Nov. 27. The new expansion will see gamers help Aria T'loak battle to take back the space station Omega from the Illusive Man's Cerberus operatives. You can check out the first images from Omega including the first female Turian here.
