There's a lot of buzz surrounding the release of "Metal Gear Survive," the latest in Konami's "Metal Gear" series, but not in a good way.
See, the company recently suffered a breakup with one of the game's creators, Hideo Kojima, who left the company last year to start his own studio. Of course, game development is never a solo venture, but it seems that Konami could not fully grasp the essence of "Metal Gear" enough to create "Survive." The new trailer was released to much contempt from passionate "Metal Gear" fans, who of course took to social media to air their concerns.
According to IGN, "Metal Gear Survive," which is the first in the series without Kojima, offers players a new approach to the stealth elements they may be familiar with in the "Metal Gear" games. However, the new game will be set in a "unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multiplayer experience."
Konami brand manager Richard Jones explained to Eurogamer that fans will find themselves on a desert landscape, following the events of Ground Zeroes. Here, the main character will find that Big Boss and Miller escape, but other Mother Base staff unfortunately do not survive. The main characters are then swept up in a wormhole, and that's where the co-op begins because players will be forced together to survive.
Whether or not Kojima was still part of Konami when "Metal Gear Survive" was being developed remains to be a mystery, as the company remains tight-lipped and refuses to answer any questions about whether or not the game developer had any hand at the creation of the latest game that is set to arrive in 2017. Many signs already point to no.
