'Gotham' Season 3 Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Joker Is Not Done Terrorizing Gotham City

There's only less than a month to go before "Gotham" season 3 heads back to FOX and there is so much to look forward to when the Bruno Heller show returns. There's the arrival of a brand new Poison Ivy played by Maggie Geha, and the addition of "Jessica Jones" actor Kieran Mulcare to a yet-undisclosed role, and Naian Gonzalez Norvind as the Mad Hatter's younger sister, Alice Tetch.

IGN reports on these new additions, making it one very exciting upcoming season for the FOX series. Moreover, TV Guide reports that executive producer Ken Woodruff hints at a very crucial character returning to "Gotham" season 3. Spoiler alert for those who haven't caught up yet.

According Woodruff, it was indeed Jerome A.K.A. the Joker's laughter that was audibly heard in the season finale of the show back in May. Fans may recall that Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) was evidenty killed off so early in the series, but it seems that the Joker is not done terrorizing Gotham City just yet. But how are they bringing back Jerome to life in "Gotham" season 3?

Woodruff explained that the audible laugh was to "keep Jerome and that threat of the Joker alive." He also confirmed that they aren't done exploring the mythology of Joker on the series. While he admitted that they aren't immediately going to explore it in the beginning of "Gotham" season 3, fans should expect him to come around somewhere in the latter part of the upcoming season.

The larger picture, as Woodruff explained, is that to have the Joker myth play out until a theoretical fourth season, which they are hoping to achieve, if "Gotham" season 3 plays out well. He explained that a big return is slated for the character, "sort of like John the Baptist." "Gotham" season 3 returns to FOX on September 19.
