Charlie Hunnam Latest News & Update: Actual Skirmish Almost Happened For ‘King Arthur’ Lead Role

Charlie Hunnam will take on the lead role of “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword”, something that could have starred either Michael Fassbender or even Henry Cavill. Guy Ritchie eventually settled for the “Sons of Anarchy” star thought the decision had some interesting sidelights.

Most have probably heard of Charlie Hunnam’s temper that almost resulted in an altercation with “Sons of Anarchy” showrunner Kurt Sutter. Much of that was covered in a previous post.

Hunnam’s temper pulled the sword

Perhaps knowing that Charlie Hunnam had an uncontrollable temper, Ritchie pushed the star to the limit. In an interview with “Empire”, Ritchie hit Hunnam about being physically fit for the role.

Knowing that he was up against big name actors (Fassbender and Cavill), Hunnam just lost it and told Ritchie to stop the camera and bring in the two for a fight. The point of it all was to prove that he was physically fit for the role but Ritchie may have been impressed more about his desire for the lead.

The fact that Hunnam showed he wanted the role was enough to convince Ritchie to choose him over the two veteran actors. But what exactly is in store for “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword”?

Yahoo UK reports that this will be unlike past “King Arthur” films. It seems to carry some “Game of Thrones” angles meaning folks who plan to see it can expect something different.

“We wanted to make an ignoble Arthur, at least at first,” Hunnam said in the interview. “We wanted him to feel contemporary, selfish, somewhat rough around the edges.”

Whatever Ritchie and Hunnam have planned should be pretty interesting. Aside from the 27-year-old actor, other figures for “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” include Eric Bana, Jude Law, Aiden Gillen and Astrid Berges-Frisbey. The film is set to hit the big screen on Mar. 24, 2017.
