'Pokemon Go' Cheat, Tips & Tricks: How To Maximize Your Team Leader's Appraisals [VIDEO]

The hugely popular "Pokemon Go" added a new feature in its latest update to help decode the rather mystifying world of powering up your Pokemon and battling in the game's gyms. Now, your chosen Team Leader (after you hit level five and choose between teams Valor, Mystic, and Instinct) will now be available to appraise any of your Pokemon at any time.

Most of you will have already figured out how to access appraisal in "Pokemon Go." If you haven't, it's real simple: just open the Pokemon tab from your menu in the game, inspect a Pokemon, pull up the menu, and hit Appraise. Your Team Leader (who, up until this point, has been silent and not too instrumental with battling) will pop up really quick to evaluate the particular Pokemon and help you figure out whether you should stick with it or go with other Pokemon for battle—although still in pretty broad terms.

Each of the things the leader says about your Pokemon corresponds to certain properties, namely IVs. This video decodes some of them to help you get better at battling in "Pokemon Go."

For example, when your "Pokemon Go" leader says your Pokemon is a "wonder" and is "breathtaking," it usually means one of its IV ranges is between 80-100% and it will grow to become strong when it's powered up. From there, you can generally figure out from the things he/she says about the Pokemon to determine where its IV range is, as its pretty obvious from the words they use.

Despite this, however, you're still better off using third-party apps to calculate specific IV ranges in "Pokemon Go." The appraisal system only gives you a really general idea of how the Pokemon will grow, nor is it supposed to tell you otherwise—if it did, it would immediately give away too many of its secrets. Overall, the feature is a nice little gesture from developer Niantic, but it won't do much to sway the minds of those starting to become disillusioned with the game.
