'Pokemon Go' Cheats, News & Updates: Control What Your Eevee Evolves Into Using This Name Trick

One evolution trick for Eevee was confirmed to be functional in "Pokemon Go." The approach is quite simple, which requires "Pokemon Go" trainers to merely change the name of the creature to turn into any of the three available evolutions.

The Eevee name trick in "Pokemon Go" actually refers to an episode in the original "Pokemon" anime series. The episode, titled "Battling Eevee Brothers," featured three brothers who each owned a different version of Eevee. The brothers were named Sparky, Pyro and Rainer, who owned a Jolteon, Flareon and Vaporeon, respectively.

Pokemon Go Informer reported that the Eevee name trick in "Pokemon Go" allows players to transform their existing Eevee into a Jolteon, Flareon or Vaporeon just by changing renaming the creature. When the "Pokemon Go" trainer renames Eevee to Pyro, it will evolve into Flareon, renaming it into Sparky turns it into Jolteon, while renaming it into Rainer changes it into Vaporeon.

Rumors of the Eevee name trick in "Pokemon Go" started late in July 2016. "Pokemon Go" trainers were initially skeptical that the approach would actually work. Generally, Pokemon in the hit mobile game can only evolve after collecting enough Candies.

John Hanke, CEO of Niantic, actually confirmed at the San Diego Comic-Con 2016 that the Eevee name trick in "Pokemon Go" actually works. However, there are limitations to evolving Eevee. The forced evolution can only be done once per evolution. Players who plan to change their evolved Eevee into another type will only get a one-third chance of getting the exact version because the change will be random by then.

SlashGear noted that there is also a "Pokemon Go" glitch that may cause the Eevee name trick to fail for some players. The best approach is to rename Eevee, and then close the app. Restart the app and check whether Eevee still has the nickname. If it is still there, "Pokemon Go" trainers can evolve it without any issue. Furthermore, two more versions of Eeevee are expected to arrive in "Pokemon Go" soon, namely Espeon and Umbreon. More updates and details on "Pokemon Go" are expected in the coming weeks.
