'Mortal Kombat XL' Latest News & Updates: PC Version Coming Soon; Check Out The Free Open Beta On Steam

The latest instalment in the Mortal Kombat franchise will be available in PC after all, after Mortal Kombat X was axed on the platform. For those who would want to have a sample of how the game will be, Mortal Kombat XL is actually available for a free open beta on Steam.

Cinema Blend reports that one can see on the Mortal Kombat X Steam Page a small announcement right above the "Add to Cart" button. This states that folks can join the "free MKXL online enhanced beta" to assist the developers in improving the gameplay. However, the free playtime is quite limited since the beta will end on August 29 at 10am, so that could make a good weekend plan for those interested.

The Mortal Kombat franchise has not jived very well with the PC platform lately since when Mortal Kombat X was launched, it came with a few bugs. The online crowd thought these were too big and developer Nether Realm and publisher Warner Brothers decided to give up and just cut off technical support back in January.

With what has happened lately, it looks like the future between the Mortal Kombat franchise with the PC platform looks bright. "Mortal Kombat XL" is actually an amplified version of its predecessor "Mortal Kombat X which comes with everything the original offered with some extra goodies.

Mobi Picker reports that when series co-creator Ed Boon asked the crowd what they want next, many responded that they wanted "Mortal Kombat XL" with GGPO (good game peace out). GPPO is a middleware for PC which is created for a near lagless online experience for arcade and fighting games. Over 10,000 votes were obtained by Ed Boon on Twitter and of three choices, GGPO obtained 48% of the votes.

"Mortal Kombat XL" of course, will come with the additional DLC which its predecessor came with which includes Kombat Packs 1 and 2. Kombat Pack number one introduced Hollywood icons to the fighting game which included Jason Vourhess from Friday the 13th, Tremor and Predator. Kombat Pack number 2 will add more of them with the introduction of Alien Xenomorph, Leatherface, and a lot more.
