iCloud News & Update: Apple Launches Additional 2TB iCloud Storage Before iPhone 7 Launch Event In September

Apple has just launched a new option for iCloud users prior to their iPhone 7 launch event, which is slated for September. For only $19.99 a month, Apple users can avail of a 2TB space on the storage service. Reports believe that the new iCloud offer could hint the coming of an iPhone 7 with a 256GB storage capacity.

According to The Verge, the pricing is reminiscent of Google Drive and Microsoft's offers, with 1TB storage space available for a monthly price of $9.99 and $6.99, respectively. However, the newest iCloud offer seems to confirm a certain rumor surrounding the iPhone 7.

The newest iCloud 2TB offer doesn't eliminate the existence of other options, such as $0.99 a month for 50GB, $2.99 for 200GB, and $9.99 for 1TB. Even better, Apple users -- particularly those on Mac and iOS -- that don't actually pay for iCloud services get a default storage space of 5GB, free of charges. It's highly likely that users who opt to get the iPhone 7 would be entitled to the same privilege.

The new iCloud storage offer is definitely interesting, considering that the iPhone 7 release date is slated to launch next month. Reports find this particularly intriguing, given that rumors currently claim that the iPhone 7 would have a variant with 128GB storage.

9to5Mac even posits a theory that could confirm this notion with regard to the iPhone 7 storage. "The previous largest tier, 1TB, was roughly 8x larger than the largest iPhone device storage tier -- 128GB: (1024/128 =8)," the report cited. "With the possible addition of a new 256GB iPhone SKU, a 2TB iCloud storage plan would maintain the 8x ratio: (2048/256 = 8)."

What do you think? Does Apple's new offer for iCloud storage indicate that the iPhone 7 could come with a bigger storage capacity? Sound off in the comments section below!
