'Gran Turismo Sport' Release Date, News & Updates: Launch Delayed To 2017; Developer Needs Time To Perfect The Game

A new update revealed that "Gran Turismo Sport" will have a postponed launch date. Although the game was originally supposed to release before the end of 2016, developer Polyphony Digital announced that "Gran Turismo Sport" will instead become available sometime in 2017.

In May 2016, the studio announced that the beta version of "Gran Turismo Sport" has been cancelled. According to Kazunori Yamauchi, founder of Polyphony Digital, providing a beta will need the same amount of work as developing the full game. The studio decided to focus all its effort in finishing the official game instead.

Kazunori Yamauchi stated on PlayStation Blog that the "Gran Turismo Sport' development team requires more time to perfect the game. He explained that they already dedicated so much effort in the title since they initially announced it and would not wish to compromise the experience in any manner. Although they cannot confirm a specific release date at present, they assured "Gran Turismo Sport" fans of their commitment to making the upcoming version the best one yet.

GameSpot cited Yamauchi in saying that "Gran Turismo Sport" is one of the studio's most ambitious projects to date. The game will allegedly feature some of the latest technologies like sound simulations and physics-based rendering. Polyphony Digital attempts to truly reinvent the meaning of a racing game, introducing the advanced features, as well as the Sports mode that will focus on the competitive nature of the game.

"Gran Turismo Sport" will have a championship series that players can join, spanning two years. The long event will culminate in a big event where winners can actually celebrate with real-world racing stars. "Gran Turismo Sport" is set to exclusively release on PlayStation 4. The game will also have PlayStation VR support in the near future.

Although "Gran Turismo Sport" has been delayed, fans can get more details about it at a PlayStation Event on Sept. 7, 2016. Sony is prepared to showcase the PlayStation Neo and PlayStation 4 Slim at the event, and will probably introduce some of its upcoming game titles. More updates and details on "Gran Turismo Sport" are expected soon.
