'Supergirl' Season 2 Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Is Tyler Hoechlin Throwing Shade at Zack Snyder?

Ever since "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" debuted back in March to mixed and somewhat puzzled reviews from critics and viewers alike. It seems that it had become a running joke among fans who didn't like Zack Snyder's interpretation of Batman and his bromance (faux-mance?) with the equally brooding Superman (remember "Man of Steel?").

"Justice League" promises to be more lighthearted, given the preview shown during the SDCC. Batfleck's cracking jokes! Ezra Miller's Flash is self-deprecating! It's a total 180-degree turn from what "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" ever was.

With that in mind, it seems that another Superman is putting his two cents in the debate of how Superman—or superheroes in general—should be portrayed. Tyler Hoechlin, who debuts on The CW's "Supergirl" season 2 as Superman, recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly and commented about how the superhero is being portrayed in the small screen.

The 28-year old actor who plays Kara's cousin on "Supergirl" season 2 that first and foremost, the show as a whole wanted to "honor the tradition that is the character without really emulating anything that somebody else has done before."

However, Hoechlin also admitted that his interpretation of Superman is more hopeful and more positive than what audiences have seen in "Batman v Superman." He said, "You don’t have to be dark and brooding and always in this state of masculine toughness. He sits in that very hopeful and optimistic place that Kara tends to be in."
